The nation’s population of older adults is set to grow exponentially, with the number of Americans over 65 expected to increase by 18 million in just the next decade. Maine is at the forefront of this trend. The state is home to the second highest proportion of residents over age 65—17 percent in comparison to a national average of 13.7 percent. As this population grows, unprecedented stress will be placed on delivery systems and support networks.

The Bipartisan Policy Center’s Senior Health and Housing Task Force recently released a report, Healthy Aging Begins at Home, to advance policy reforms that would better position communities to support the increasing and diverse health and housing needs of our nation’s seniors.
